The Lovaas Treatment Program is a proven method of instruction developed by Dr. Ivar Lovaas while at UCLA
Based on the needs of the child, treatment plans are designed by Lovaas consultants, who subsequently train and supervise instructors in delivering the curriculum. One-to-one instruction is individualized and delivered in the least restrictive environment.
Our consultants are college educated and have extensive experience in the Lovaas method and ABA techniques. Empirical research has shown that 35-40 hours per week of one-to-one instruction is the most effective strategy in improving outcomes.
A complete treatment program includes the following:
- One-on-One Instruction
- Individualized Treatment Plans
- Implements Behavioral Strategies
- Parents are Involved
- Comprehensive Treatment
- Home-based Treatment
- Early Intervention, prior to age 4 (for those up to age 5, more elaborate language skills are utilized)
- Intensive Intervention: 35-40 hrs/week
Critical components to improved outcomes are the age of the child when treatment starts, how quickly children respond to therapy (early responsivity) the number of hours per week of 1:1, and the length of time children receive service. No other treatment for autism has been researched more extensively than Lovaas/ Early Intensive Behavior Intervention model.
Because we treat the behaviors associated with autism, progress has been made in many individuals’ lives even while the causes of autism have remained a mystery. Treatment hours are supplied by tutors selected from family friends and acquaintances. They’re trained by Lovaas consultants who observe and determine the child’s unique needs at each stage of development. This one-to-one, individualized treatment is important because every child with an autism diagnosis is different.
